Whether you are camping out in a tent or sleeping out under the stars, you need to put something between you and the uncomfortable hard ground. Sleeping on the cold hard ground is not conducive to a good night’s sleep. That’s where camping cots come to the rescue. You can use a sleeping bag or some other types of bedding on top of the cot. Camping cots are more durable than air mattresses, which puncture easily.
A camping cot is less portable than either pads or air mattresses because they are heavier and less compact. Cots, therefore, are more suitable when the same site will be used for an extended time. This does not mean that cots have no portability. A folding cot can conveniently be carried however in most cases only for short distances.
Cots allow for extra storage space underneath them since they are off the ground. They provide for two functions for the same area in the tent. This also helps protect campers from crawlers such as snakes and scorpions that might decide to try and share your bed. There is little insulation from the cold air below in a camping cot. A sleeping pad can be used on the cot to provide a barrier. If you have the advantage of a real bed in a camping cot make use of this and bring along some proper bedding. One benefit of being raised off the ground is that it makes it easier to get in and out of bed. There’s no scrambling over people trying to get yourself up in the middle of the night! Plus making up a camp bed with a cot has the distinct advantage over an air mattress in that it cannot spring a leak and deflate during the night!
A torch and pair of shoes under your camping cot at night will ultimately prove to be useful. Also simply place any extra gear under the cot and out of your way and this allows for more room in the tent. No more sleeping on sharp rocks at night, your camping cot will keep you comfortably off the ground for a restful night’s sleep.
